Repository Policy
Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) supports the dissemination of research through repositories and preprint servers, following best practices for open-access publishing. In line with the Sherpa Romeo guidelines and our commitment to open science, the journal allows authors to archive their manuscripts in any repository, including preprint servers, at different stages of the publication process. Below are the details of our repository policy:
1. Types of Manuscript Versions for Repository Submission
Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) permits authors to archive the following versions of their manuscripts:
-
Preprint Version: Authors may submit the preprint version of their manuscript to any preprint server or institutional repository before or during the peer-review process. This allows for early dissemination of research findings and encourages community feedback.
-
Postprint Version: The postprint version (accepted manuscript) of the manuscript, after the peer-review process and revisions but before final publication in the journal, may be archived in repositories or preprint servers. This version should acknowledge that the manuscript has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication in MKA.
-
Published Version: Authors are permitted to archive the final published version (the version of record) in any repository or institutional archive after the manuscript has been officially published in MKA. The published version includes all final typesetting, formatting, and editing.
2. Archiving in Repositories and Preprint Servers
-
General Policy: Authors are encouraged to deposit the preprint, postprint, and published versions of their manuscripts in publicly accessible repositories or institutional archives. This supports open science, transparency, and the rapid dissemination of research findings.
-
No Restrictions on Repository Choice: Authors are free to choose any appropriate repository or preprint server that fits their needs, provided that the repository allows for the proper licensing and attribution of the manuscript. This includes:
-
Institutional repositories
-
Subject-specific repositories (e.g., PubMed Central, ArXiv, BioRxiv)
-
General repositories like Zenodo or Figshare
-
Preprint servers relevant to the field of research
-
-
License Requirements: All archived versions, whether preprint, postprint, or published, must be uploaded under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This ensures that the work remains freely accessible, and proper attribution is given to the authors and Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA).
3. Embargo Period and Access to Final Published Version
-
Preprint: Authors can submit the preprint version to repositories or preprint servers at any time before or during the peer-review process. The preprint can be freely accessed by others and does not require an embargo period.
-
Postprint: The postprint (accepted manuscript) can be archived immediately after peer review, provided the author adheres to the journal's licensing requirements and makes it clear that the manuscript has been accepted for publication. There is no embargo period for postprint versions.
-
Published Version: After the article is published in Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA), authors may deposit the final published version in any repository or preprint server. The published version can be deposited immediately, without any embargo period, ensuring that the work is openly accessible to the global academic community.
4. Compliance with Copyright and Licensing
-
Creative Commons License: All versions of manuscripts (preprints, postprints, and final published versions) archived by the authors must be uploaded under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This enables free access, redistribution, and reuse of the manuscript, as long as proper attribution is given.
-
Correct Citation: When archiving a manuscript, authors must include a citation that clearly refers to Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) as the original publisher. For the published version, authors must cite the journal’s DOI (Digital Object Identifier), ensuring that readers can easily locate the final published article.
-
Repository Guidelines: Authors are encouraged to check that the repository or preprint server they choose aligns with the CC BY 4.0 license and provides proper credit to the original publisher and authors.
5. Benefits of Repository Submission
-
Increased Visibility and Impact: Archiving the manuscript in repositories or preprint servers increases the visibility of the research, allowing it to reach a broader audience and receive early feedback. This promotes collaboration and enhances the impact of the work in the academic community.
-
Compliance with Funders and Institutions: Many funding agencies and academic institutions require that research be made publicly available in repositories. By allowing authors to archive their work in appropriate repositories, Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) supports compliance with these policies and the principles of open science.
-
Permanent Access and Preservation: The journal’s use of open-access repositories ensures that the research remains accessible for the long term, even if the journal or publisher's platform becomes unavailable. This is supported by LOCKSS and other trusted digital preservation methods.
