Author Guidelines

Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research in the fields of medical science, public health, and related interdisciplinary sub-specialties. To maintain the highest standards, authors are required to follow these guidelines for submitting their manuscripts.

1. Manuscript Types

Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles: Full-length research findings.

  • Review Articles: Systematic or narrative reviews of relevant topics in medical science.

  • Short Communications: Brief reports of novel findings or preliminary results.

  • Case Studies: Clinical case studies with substantial value to medical science.

2. Manuscript Preparation

2.1 Language

  • Manuscripts must be written in English or Indonesian. For English manuscripts, the use of correct academic English is required, and authors are encouraged to seek language editing services if necessary.

2.2 Length and Formatting

  • The length of the manuscript should not exceed 4000 words for Original Research Articles, and 2000 words for Short Communications.

  • Font: Calibri, 12-point font size, with 1.15 line spacing.

  • Margins: 1-inch (2.5 cm) on all sides.

  • Headings: Use bold for section headings and italic for sub-headings.

  • Figures and Tables: Must be submitted in separate files (Word format, preferably). All figures and tables should be numbered consecutively and referenced in the manuscript. Include a legend for each figure or table.

2.3 Title

  • The title should be concise (max 14 words for Bahasa Indonesia and max 12 words for English), describing the main topic of the manuscript.

  • The title should be written in sentence case (capitalize only the first letter of the title and proper nouns).

2.4 Abstract

  • Length: 150-200 words.

  • The abstract must summarize the key points of the manuscript, including the Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

  • Avoid abbreviations, except those that are universally recognized.

  • Include Keywords (3-5 keywords, separated by semicolons) after the abstract.

  • Include the names of all authors, along with their affiliations. Affiliation numbers should be superscripted next to each author’s name.

  • Corresponding author: Provide the name, email address, and phone number of the corresponding author.

4. Peer Review Process

Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) follows a double-blind peer review process, where both the reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout the evaluation process.

  • Authors may submit the manuscript for initial screening, followed by a peer-review phase. The editorial team assigns the manuscript to reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.

  • Reviews will be conducted within 4-6 weeks after submission.

  • Authors will receive the reviewers' comments, and based on this, they will be required to revise their manuscript before final acceptance.

5. Ethics and Plagiarism

5.1 Ethical Standards

  • Authors must adhere to ethical research standards, ensuring that the research complies with the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

  • For research involving human or animal subjects, the authors must provide evidence of ethical approval from a relevant ethics committee.

5.2 Plagiarism Policy

  • Manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin. The maximum allowed similarity index is 25%. Manuscripts with a similarity index above this threshold will be rejected.

  • Authors must ensure that all sources are properly cited and that no part of the manuscript is plagiarized.

6. Copyright and License

  • Authors retain copyright over their work. Upon acceptance, authors grant Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) the right to publish and distribute the work under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

  • This license allows the work to be freely shared, distributed, and adapted, provided appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the journal.

7. Data Availability and Supporting Materials

  • Authors are encouraged to make their data available in public repositories, where applicable, to support reproducibility and transparency in research.

  • Any supplementary files, datasets, or multimedia materials should be submitted along with the manuscript.

8. Conflict of Interest

  • Authors must disclose any conflict of interest that may influence their manuscript. This includes financial or personal relationships that could affect the interpretation of the research.

  • If no conflicts exist, authors should clearly state "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

9. Acceptance and Publication

  • Upon final acceptance, the manuscript will undergo formatting for publication.

  • Accepted articles are published in four issues per year, with no embargo period.

  • Authors will receive a final publication notification with the DOI link to their article.

10. References and Citation Style

Majalah Kedokteran Andalas (MKA) follows the Vancouver citation style. Authors must format the references according to this system, including appropriate citation of all sources used in the manuscript.
