Abstract

Pendahuluan: Rokok elektrik pertama kali diperkenalkan di Cina pada tahun 2003, kemudian dibawa ke Eropa tahun 2005 dan Amerika tahun 2007. Rokok elektrik adalah perangkat yang memberikan pengalaman merokok dengan mengirimkan nikotin atau kandungan zat tertentu, ke dalam paru melalui penguapan. Rokok elektrik umumnya mengandung propilen glikol, gliserol, cairan perasa, logam berat, nikotin, dan senyawa organik volatil (VOC). Penggunaan rokok elektrik setiap hari di Amerika mencapai 7,6% dan 27,5% penggunaan dalam 30 hari terakhir.

Kasus cedera paru akibat penggunaan produk rokok elektrik dikenal dengan istilah e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (EVALI) dilaporkan pertama kali pada 1 Agustus 2019. Sebanyak lebih dari 2.800 kasus rawat inap dan 68 kematian akibat EVALI per Maret 2020. Lebih dari 50% pasien meninggal memiliki diagnosis sindrom gangguan pernapasan akut.
